Tahoe Rim Trail

165 miles (+) Loop hike
Typically done in 10-15 days. Reasonable daily distances to do in 12 days
Ideally allow enough time to take a “zero” day when we resupply half-way through

Mid-July to mid-September are best. Can do as early as late June. Mosquitoes are bad into early July.

Start at Tahoe City; resupply at South Lake Tahoe OR

Start at Kingsbury Grade (just west of South Lake Tahoe) and hike clockwise to reach Tahoe City midway through your trek. This is perfect timing for resupply

Dogs allowed!

Easy permits:
The California Campfire Permit needed to operate a stove on the trail is free and can be had by passing a straightforward Internet quiz. (Don’t plan on an actual campfire though.) For thru-hikers, there is no quota for Desolation Wilderness Permits. I got mine with a phone call and $10. (Call two weeks out.)
